"We haven't had the problems mentioned by others and don't have an old set to compare it to so there isn't any disappointment. My 3.5 year old son loves this set. We did get the supplimental box of tracks which is reasonably priced and he will spend hours with it. He got it last year (2014) for Christmas and it is still his most played with toy. Great for rainy days."
I would recommend this to a friend!

"Our almost three year old daughter loves the train. We have the track running around our Christmas tree, and she's been playing with it for two days now. Unfortunately, every time she stops the train without shutting it off, the wheels slip. She stops it just for a moment to attach an animal from her other sets, but it's long enough to damage the piece the engine is on. The teeth on the track are so shallow and soft that the every time the wheel of the train slips it smooths out that section. After two days of use, more than half the pieces have almost smooth areas. When the train cars have more weight than what comes in the set, it slips a little on those spots and wears away more of the teeth. It's a really fun toy but not built for how little kids use it. The teeth on the bridge are much larger and don't seem to have the problem.
If you do get this set and have carpet, we recommend using pieces from other sets to hold the tracks together."

"My little guy is autistic and loves planes, trains and cars. He inherited his uncles battery duplo train set from 20 odd years ago and it's still going strong. Since then we've added the starter train set, the deluxe train set and 2x points and accessories pack and an extra bridge (via the spares shop). He takes over my living room and can build it himself. He's very heavy handed and chews alot but all the track, trains etc are all going strong regardless. i also love that because it hasn't changed, ever, you can very easily add to it with secondhand bits!!!
I highly recommend all the train sets, they may seem an expensive outlay but they will go on and on and seem to be indestructable (trust me we've tried!!)"
"We love lego in our home but this set is a brilliant way of introducing it to the little ones. When they are small, mum and dad can set it up for them to use and as they become familiar with how lego works they can experiment with putting it together how they choose. It works well on its own or in combination with other Duplo sets. For our son it was love at first sight. He loved the chunky, child friendly trains with their fun noises and all the little imaginary play activities he could do with each part of the set. Very quickly he set about using some of his other Duplo blocks inherited from his older brothers (a testament to lego durability) to expand his new train set. Even the older children enjoy playing with it making it adaptable from very small toddlers right up to school aged children. Easily a favourite in our home."
