" The LEGO color sensor is one of the beter light sensing sensors I have used. The ability to switch betwene a light and color sensor without a hardware change is very useful, and has been a key component in many of my robots. Since the sensor does not internaly calculate the color (that's handled by the firmware) it makes the sensor very fast so it can detect the color of falling objects as they pass by, making high speed color sorters posible.
Tips for buyers/users:
Make sure the sensor is level with the object that you want to check the color of, it does not like working at an angle.
If a bright light is pointed at the front of the sensor, it will give inaccurate readings as it cannot see its own reflected light.
"
I would recommend this to a friend!

" With my Lego set, I built a vehicle that colud identify colors. It would sometimes get the right color, but it wouldn't always get it right. If it saw a yellow ball, it wouldn't stop saying yellow, even for a blue ball. I tried lowering it toward the ground a little, and it was picking up the color from our table! Maybe my expectations were too high, but it didn't work very well. "

" I got mine with the NXT 2.0 set. It has one big problem. It does not always read correctly. So for something like FLL, it might be good, because you're just differentiating between black and white (usually), and you wouldn't have to calibrate it, like you would a light sensor. But for anything else, I would say use a light sensor. "
